Sometimes the problem is obvious: your air conditioning blows warm air and won’t cool the cabin.
Other times, it’s harder to pin down. The AC might work one day and struggle the next, make a new noise, take longer to cool or stop responding properly to the controls.
If you’re in Labrador, bring your vehicle to SuperCool Southport. We provide automotive air conditioning diagnosis, repairs and regassing from our workshop at 51 High Street, Southport.
Tell us what you’ve noticed and we’ll start by checking what’s actually happening with the system.
Call 07 5532 8133 or contact SuperCool to arrange a booking.
You don’t have to know the name of the faulty component before calling us.
Start with the symptom.
What You’re Experiencing | What May Need Checking |
AC blows warm air | Refrigerant, leaks, compressor operation, electrical faults or other AC components |
Cooling works sometimes but not others | Electrical, control or system faults |
Cabin takes longer to cool | Overall AC performance, refrigerant or component condition |
AC became warm again after a regas | Possible refrigerant loss or another unresolved fault |
Unusual noise when the AC is running | Compressor or related components |
Bad smell from the vents | Evaporator or ventilation-system contamination |
Windscreen isn’t demisting properly | AC, heating or climate-control performance |
Temperature controls aren’t behaving normally | Sensors, controls or electrical components |
These symptoms can help point the inspection in the right direction, but they don’t confirm the fault on their own.
When an air conditioning system stops getting cold, it’s easy to assume it needs a regas.
Sometimes it does. Sometimes something else is causing the poor performance.
Depending on the vehicle and symptoms, SuperCool may need to investigate:
If the refrigerant charge is low, it’s also worth understanding why it has become low, particularly when the vehicle has previously been regassed.
The goal is to identify what the system needs rather than automatically sell the same service for every vehicle.
For more detail about our diagnostic and repair capabilities, visit our car air conditioning page.
If you know the AC isn’t working properly but don’t know why, diagnosis gives us a place to start.
We inspect and test the system based on the symptoms before determining what service or repair is appropriate.
If the system is losing refrigerant, SuperCool can investigate for leaks rather than relying on repeated regassing.
When testing shows that the system requires refrigerant, it can be recharged using the appropriate refrigerant for the vehicle.
If diagnosis identifies a faulty component or another problem, we can advise what needs to be repaired or replaced.
Not every AC problem is caused by refrigerant.
Electrical faults, sensors, controls and other climate-control components can affect whether the system operates correctly.
That’s particularly important when the AC works intermittently or doesn’t respond normally to the controls.
Warm air, intermittent cooling, strange noises, smells or a previous unsuccessful regas can all provide useful information.
If another workshop has recently worked on the system, let us know what was done.
Testing depends on the symptoms and vehicle.
This may involve checking refrigerant, leaks, pressures, electrical operation, controls or individual AC components.
Once the likely cause has been identified, we can explain the appropriate next step.
Depending on the diagnosis, that might involve servicing, a repair, electrical work, component replacement or regassing.
After approved work is completed, the AC can be checked again to confirm its operation and cooling performance.
Not every vehicle uses the same refrigerant.
SuperCool services both R134a and HFO-1234yf automotive air conditioning systems.
R134a is used in many vehicles already on Australian roads, while HFO-1234yf is fitted to many newer vehicles and requires specialised servicing equipment.
SuperCool has equipment for both.
If you don’t know which refrigerant your vehicle uses, you don’t need to work it out before booking. Give us the vehicle details and we’ll identify the system fitted.
An unusual noise is worth mentioning when you book, particularly if it:
A noise alone doesn’t tell us exactly which component is responsible.
Rather than guessing that the compressor or another part needs replacing, SuperCool can inspect the system and determine where the problem is coming from.
Intermittent faults can be frustrating because the system may appear normal one moment and stop performing properly the next.
Problems like this aren’t automatically caused by low refrigerant.
Depending on the vehicle, electrical components, controls, sensors or other parts of the AC system may need to be checked.
Tell us when the problem tends to occur and what the system does when it happens. Those details can help during diagnosis.
Cooling isn’t the only reason to have your vehicle air conditioning checked.
If there’s a musty or unpleasant smell when the fan or AC operates, SuperCool offers Bactigas® antibacterial treatment to help deodorise and sanitise appropriate areas of the system.
Because odours can have different causes, mention the smell when booking rather than assuming one treatment will solve every problem.
SuperCool’s automotive air conditioning experience extends beyond everyday cars.
Our Southport workshop works on AC and refrigeration applications including:
If you have a specialised or commercial vehicle, contact SuperCool with the details so we can confirm the appropriate service.
If you’re already bringing your vehicle in for an air conditioning problem, you can also ask about other maintenance it needs.
SuperCool provides car servicing and mechanical repairs for all makes and models.
That includes logbook servicing, general mechanical repairs, brakes, suspension and vehicle inspections.
Mention both requirements when booking so we can advise what can be arranged while your vehicle is at the workshop.

SuperCool has been looking after Gold Coast vehicles since the early 1980s.
Current owner Mitch Turner started at SuperCool as an apprentice in 1993, giving the business decades of continuity in automotive air conditioning.

Our work isn’t limited to adding refrigerant.
SuperCool provides diagnosis, leak detection, electrical fault diagnosis, climate-control work, AC repairs and regassing.
Our workshop has equipment for servicing established R134a systems and newer HFO-1234yf systems.
SuperCool operates from 51 High Street, Southport, serving Labrador and other areas across the Gold Coast.
Along with specialist air conditioning, you can bring your vehicle to the same workshop for mechanical servicing and Gold Coast rust protection.
SuperCool services Labrador drivers from our workshop at 51 High Street, Southport. Labrador is included in the Central Gold Coast areas currently served by SuperCool.
Not necessarily. Low refrigerant can reduce cooling, but leaks, electrical faults, compressor or component problems and climate-control issues can cause similar symptoms. Diagnosis helps establish what the system actually needs.
Intermittent operation can have several causes, including electrical, control or other AC system faults. Tell us exactly what the system does and when the problem tends to occur so it can be investigated.
If the AC initially improved but the cooling hasn’t lasted, refrigerant loss or another unresolved fault may need to be investigated.
Yes. Leak detection and diagnosis are part of SuperCool’s automotive air conditioning services.
Yes. SuperCool diagnoses electrical and climate-control faults as well as refrigerant and mechanical AC problems.
Yes. SuperCool has specialised equipment for servicing HFO-1234yf systems as well as R134a automotive air conditioning.
Yes. Tell us when the noise occurs and whether you’ve noticed any change in cooling at the same time. The system can then be inspected to determine what may be causing it.
